Math education targets real-life problem solving

Fifth grade students at Bruin Point Elementary in Sunnyside work in pairs with math manipulatives to solve problems. The new math program that was introduced across the state a couple of years ago uses different techniques to give students a reality check with math, making sure that it is not just an abstract idea, but something they can use and identify with.
