With the deaths of five firefighters in southern California, the reality came to home to officials and residents in the western United States last week of the devasting impacts wildfires can have on a community .
Residents in Castle Valley and southeastern Utah will have the opportunity to learn more about the emergencies and the problems wildfires pose at informational meetings slated Nov. 8 and Nov. 9.
The sessions will deal with the possibility of wildfires occurring in Carbon and Emery counties. At the meetings, residents will learn about the southeastern regional wildfire plan and what risks are associated with local communities.
The sessions are designed to accept input to allow local residents to comment about the guideline and help make improvements to the plan.
The public meeting for Carbon County will be Nov. 8 at College of Eastern Utah.
The Emery County meeting will be Nov. 9 at the Museum of the San Rafael.
The two regional wildfire sessions will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The format will include an open house with a presentation about the plan at the beginning of the meetings. Information will continue to be provided to Carbon and Emery residents until the sessions end.
