Utah historian and author Will Bagley will discuss "The Southern Route: Tales of Southern Utah's Wagon Roads to El Dorado" at the College of Eastern Utah Alumni Room located in the Jennifer Leavitt Student Center on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
Bagley will discuss trail histories and significant stories of southern Utah's wagon roads including the epic tales of the Death Valley 49ers and the 1857 Mountain Meadow's Massacre.
He has spent 10 years tracking unpublished journals, letters and documents about the massacre incident for his book, "Blood of the Prophets." His presentation will address the history and research on the massacre; including the recent discovery of a lead artifact he calls, "The Dead Lee Scroll."
The lecture is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by the Castle Country Regional Information Center, Castle Valley Archaeological Society, CEU Prehistoric Museum and CEU anthropology and history departments. Bagley's presentation is provided by the Utah Humanities Council Road Scholar Program.
