I am always amazed at corporate America's ability to adapt to changing times.
There was a day when fast food and pre packaged meals were pitched to keep the women of the house out of the kitchen.
I know this dates me. I grew up watching TV in the 60's and 70's. Products were advertised to make women better housewives. Forgive those who didn't know how to get rid of ring around the collar.
Now products are shown to make us able to do anything else but stay home and take care of our homes. We have disposable floor cleaners and dusters. There are automatic shower cleaners and throw away toilet cleaning brushes.
We are a society on the go. So I am truly amused at how a major chicken franchise is marketing their take-out as a way to get your family to stay home and eat. They used to advertise themselves as a way to eat home cooked food on the go.
Hamburger Helper has also jumped on the return to the olden days bandwagon. As a product that used to advertise as one that got you out of the kitchen fast, it now sells itself as a way to get your family to eat "home cooking."
I refuse to believe we have gone so far that Hamburger Helper is home cooking. I do know that our style of cooking has changed in the past ten years.
My granddaughter came running in the other day to announce to me that grandpa was making popcorn the new way. I asked her what that meant and she said he was cooking it on the stove in a pot. In her world she had only know it to be popped in the microwave in a bag.
Of course when my children were little they thought I made homemade soup because I opened the can and heated it up at home.
In our busy world we do need to make sure we are taking time to have a meal together several times a week. Daily would be even better, but I shoot for three times a week.
Use all the time saving products to clean your house. Or just let it go a bit. Cut down on your evening meetings or be late.
Even if it is a bucket of chicken, sit down and talk to each other. You will be glad you did.
