The Carbon High Golf team entered the state tournament with high hopes; however they didn't have as good of a tournament as they had hoped for.
The team finished the first day in 11th place out of 16 teams. Only the teams that finished in the top 10 could move on to second day play.
Dixie won the tournament, Pineview took second and Snow Canyon ended up in third place. All three teams will be out of the 3A ranks next year and this will leave the door wide open in that division.
Shayne Burke, a junior, was Carbon's best individual golfer with an 81 the first day. He qualified as an individual to play the second day and shot an 84. He finished in 24th place.
Jordan Pinedo, a freshman, finished with an 86 to finish in second place for the Dino team.
Brett Johnson, a senior, shot an 88. Ween Ngamketkamol, a senior, shot an 89. Corbin Black, a freshman, shot a 90 and Jason Child, a junior, shot a 93. The top four individual scores make up the team total.
Coach Tony Pinedo summed up the season.
"It was a great year and we are greatful to everyone who has helped us. Tom King and the staff at Carbon Country Club were great to work with and they really helped us a lot."
He also had some words for next year.
"We are looking forward to another great year with four of the six participants at state coming back next season."
