Carbon Girls soccer continues to improve

Rebecca Rummel continues to play tough as goalie as she leaps up to make a stop

In a hard fought game that went to overtime, North Sanpete edged out the Carbon Girls soccer team in a heartbreaking loss. Tied 3-3 at the end of regulation play, North Sanpete sneaked a final score in with just seconds to go in the overtime period to win 4-3.

Principal Robert Cox and Coach Tanya Henri honored the seniors before the start of play. The team seemed emotionally revved up as they took to the field. Carbon controlled the ball most of the first half of play, but when North Sanpete moved it down the field they were able to put the ball in the goal.

Carbon had several shots on goal, but could not punch it in. At the end of the first half of play the Dinos found themselves in a familiar situation of being down 2-0.

The Dinos again controlled the ball in the second half of play. Felicia Olmos added two goals to her season total. North Sanpete was able to add one more score. As the clock ticked down it looked like the Dinos would go down to defeat again. They knew they still had a chance. Elisabeth Smith hit a shot into the back of the net to tie it up and sent the game into an overtime period.

Scoreless until there was one minute left to play, North Sanpete put up a shot that hit the goal post and took a lucky carom into the net. It was the toughest defeat of the season for the Dinos. Coach Henri was estatic with her entire team. "The defense was amazing" she noted. "I had two defenders, Kelsey Tatton and Britany McKibbon that literally laid themselves out on the goal line to save a goal. It was a great team effort."

With little time to regroup, Carbon travels to Delta on Tuesday Oct. 3 to play the Rabbits.
