Yesterday marked the official beginning of summer.
We are truly blessed with an abundance of opportunities to play here in Carbon County. Most of what we can do takes less than an hour to get to. That is a fortunate thing due to the ever rising cost of gasoline to fill our vehicles.
I hope that many parents take advantage of the full slate of camps and activities that Carbon Recreation has put together. I know I have my granddaughter signed up for a few. What a bargain to get a few hours of relief from the summer boredom cry.
I wish they were both old enough.
I was down in Moab last week getting my river guide license and visited a friend. She was amazed that I work for Carbon Recreation as a river guide. Moab, known for its river running, does not offer any type of programs like we have for their residents.
It may be that they don't want to compete with the local businesses. I am not sure, but we certainly have one of the best recreation programs in the state right here in Price. Now we don't have one of those big county built recreation centers, but I know that a center is in the works for here.
There is also a group raising money to build a super playground that will offer a place for hours of free play and discover. I hope people take the time to learn about what the group is doing and offer to be part of a great improvement to our community. They will need both money and time from the entire community to get this built this year.
This community is what we make it. I have listed many of the recreation opportunities in the past and I hope that someone found out about something new they didn't know about before because of that.
Some of these programs will go away if the community doesn't embrace them.
What would you like to see added to our recreation opportunities? I would like to know. I am all for getting more activities into the community.
E-mail me at email@example.com and tell me what you think the community still needs. I may be able to connect you with a group of people that also wants the same thing.
Have a great summer and take advantage of the things that are out there to do.
