Both the Carbon High girls and boys track teams took a second place finish in the annual Uintah Invitational Track and Field meet. The meet took place on Saturday, April 22 in Vernal with nine teams competing.
Distance runner Paul Goodrich led the way with another first place finish in both the 3200 and 800 meter runs. Sprinter Jacob Perez was stellar with his first place finish in the 400 meter sprint. James McKendrick chucked the Javelin an impressive 145' for third place. He also took 6th in the 800 meter run. Travis Hepworth and Brett Wells added points with a 4th and 5th place finish in the 110 meter high hurdles. Hepwoth garnered a 5th place finish in the 30 meter low hurdles as well.
The boys added another 2nd place finish in the 4x400 relay. The relay team was composed of Goodrich, Perez, Kent Olson, and McKendrick. Olson placed 3rd in the 1600 meter run and took a 5th place finish in the 3200 meter event. Levi Branch was 6th in the shotput event. Freshman, Jarren Richens of Mont Harmon was able to score a 6th place finish in the 1600 meter run.
The girls were equally as successful. Amie Steward led the way with the winning leap in the long jump and a second place finish in the 100 meter hudles and the 300 meter hurdles. Samantha Smith struggled with breathing problems and ended up 4th in the 3200 meter distance run. She regrouped and took first in the 1600 run with a gutsy performance. Team mates Patricia Smith finished right on her heels and Elizebeth Smith completed the sweep with a third place finish. Elizebeth Smith took 3rd in the 3200 run as well. Patricia Smith was 3rd in the 800 meter run.
Allie Steward also had a good day finishing 2nd in the high jump and 4th in the 100 meter high hurdles. Danni Martino continued to win in the high jump, taking first again, She followed that up with a 5th in the 100 meter sprint. Brittany Banning garnered 2nd in the 100 meter sprint, 3rd in the high jump and 5th in the long jump.
The relay team on Rebecca Rummel, Elizebeth Smith, Samantha Smith, and Patricia Smith took a 2nd place finish in the 4x400 meter relay.
Next up for the team is a meet i\at Emery on April 25th and Richfield on the 29th.
