Dino tracksters show well at Juan Diego meet

A Carbon Dino hurdler battles to keep up with the leader in a hurdles race at a recent home meet. Carbon went to Juan Diego for a meet last week and finished well.

There are only a few sports teams on which to compete during the spring at Carbon High. Boys can go out for baseball, soccer or track. Girls can play softball or participate in track.

Last week those that went out for the track team met up with rivals at Juan Diego High School in Draper as part of their regular season. And the meet was a success for the Dinos.

While onlly a portion of the Carbon High Track squad traveled to the catholic high school on April 11, the team came away faring well.

This wasn't just a dual meet; other teams from Region 8 were in attendance too.

Paul Goodrich had another good showing as he took first place in the mile run. He was able to beat out last year's champion from Juan Diego, passing him in the final 100 yards of the race.

Kent Olson and James McKendrick also posted good times in the mile run. Jacob Perez took a second place finish in the 800 meter run, getting beat out for first in the final 50 yards of the race.

Amie and Allie Steward had good finishes in the 100 meter hurdles.

In a three way tie in the high jump, Allie Steward, Dani Martino and Brittany Banning all cleared the bar at the height of 4'10".

Since the meet was not considered a qualifying meet there was no team scores kept.

The team will now travel to Vernal for a meet on Saturday.
