Lady Dinos fall to North Sanpete

Sun Advocate sports reporter

The Lady Dino's Jenni Jones gets the ball in glove just in time for a North Sanpete runner to cross first base.

Pitching continues to remain a weakness of this year's Carbon softball squad. The lack of a sustained offense has not helped either. Playing the first place team in region eight was also not easy.

This all added up to a 6-3 loss against the North Sanpete Lady Hawks.

Carbon played host to North Sanpete on Friday after the game was rescheduled due to snow in North Sanpete on Thursday. The Dino's jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first and held on to it until the top of the third. Five runs then crossed the plate and the Hawks took the lead, up 16-3.

Carbon pitcher Torie Johnson regained her composure and shut the Hawks down in the top of the next inning. Carbon did not help their cause at the plate, but the game was still within reach at the top of the fifth when the Hawks returned to the plate.

It was a disastrous inning as North Sanpete pushed another seven across to move the lead to 10. The Dino's had one last chance to keep the game going, but failed to score.

The 10-run rule was invoked as the Dinos continued to seek a way to end this eight game losing streak.

The bright spot of the game was the home run hit by Erika Potts in the first inning.

The Lady Dinos are 0-3 in region play with Juan Diego coming to town Tuesday to take on the squad.

The team will then take a break from region play to try their hand against 4A Provo on April 18.
