Editor:
I was burning some downed trees behind my home on Haycock Lane and when the fire looked as if it would ignite some vegetation in Spring Creek, possibly causing major problems, I called 911 for the Helper Volunteer Fire Department.
They were on site within 10 minutes and in turn they called for more backup. Within the hour three trucks and over a dozen personnel responded.
The fire was controlled and through it these volunteers have certainly earned my respect for a job well done.
We are lucky to have such brave volunteers in our community.
