Softball is supposed to be a warm weather sport, isn't it?
Well, on Wednesday afternoon the wind was howling and everyone in the stands were bundled up. The players were even bundled up. But despite the cold, the Carbon Lady Dinos were able to heat the place up, at least figuratively as the downed Provo 17-7.
"Our first inning wasn't so great because we gave up as many runs as we got, but after that we really improved," said Carbon softball coach Tony Pinedo on Monday afternoon. "We really came back."
Pinedo has great reason to be happy. After the bash against Provo on their home field, they then traveled the next day to Union High and put the Lady Cougars out of their misery with a 6-3 victory.
But the Provo game, against a 4A school was very satisfying for the girls. They not only walloped the opposition, but they did it in five innings.
Just possibly their incentive was the cold wind, which just about everyone wanted to get out of.
The game had some big plays and some big players. Lacey Timothy pitched the entire game coming away with a good victory.
"She started a little slow but after giving up six hits in the first two innings she came back and only allowed one in the last three."
Morgan Warburton was big at the bat as she went 3-4 and had a home run with three RBI's.
Another strong game was had by Whitney Williams who went 2-3 and also had a home run.
Against Union, Carbon unleashed Meesha Rasmussen who went 3-3. She also put through two runs.
Warburton was the pitcher in that game and she also went the distance as Timothy did the day before. She gave up seven hits, but in the process also struck out nine batters.
Carbon now has two league games at home this week. They play Delta this afternoon (Tuesday) at 3 p.m. and then they take on Lehi Thursday at the same time.
