A human-caused fire was started approximately 4 p.m. on Sept. 24. The fire burned a quarter of an acre and was located within half a mile from the East Coal Creek prescribed fire site.
Based on evidence at the scene, the fire was human-caused and did not result from the prescribed fires that were conducted the few days prior. Law Enforcement Officer Don Lum investigated the fire later that day.
"We are currently investigating evidence left at the scene including the tire tracks found at the point of ignition."
No human-caused fire on public land is taken lightly. Each fire is investigated, evidence is collected and all leads are checked out. When a "responsible party" is identified, the case is handed to the bureau's attorneys and processed in court.
Individuals having information regarding this fire or any other human-caused fire should call a local law enforcement agency.
