Two Dino athletes qualified for state and several had personal best times at the March 20 track and field meet hosted by Carbon High.
Twenty-two schools brought over 800 athletes to participate in the state qualifyer.
Because of the large number of competitors, Carbon coach Stewart Foster said there were quite a few heats in the running events and a lot of flights in the jumping and throwing events.
Judge Memorial took home first place team trophies for both the boys and girls.
For Carbon, Brittany Banning's third place finish in the girls long jump made her the first Lady Dino to qualify for state this season.
Banning also placed second in the high jump, with Maquette Potts in third and Danielle Martino in fifth.
Bryan Stewart also qualified for state in the 110 meter hurdles in the preliminary heats. He placed fourth in the finals.
Stewart also qualified for the finals in the 300 meter. However, a bad fall in the preliminaries caused him to withdraw.
Jacob Burrows had an eighth place finish in the boys 800 meter run.
Freshman Paul Goodrich placed third in his heat in the 3200 meter, finishing in a personal best 10:54.
Melanie Madsen lead the Lady Dinos in the 3200 meter run, taking sixth place.
In the boys shot put, Dustin Hurst missed the qualifying state distance by 1.5 inches.
Foster said the coaching staff was particularly impressed with Hurst's feat because he has only been working out with the team for about a week and is still learning the event.
Josh Goodwin improved his personal best and took third place overall in the boys javelin.
"Our athletes are doing better every meet and we are looking forward to Region," Foster pointed out.
Prior to the home meet, Carbon also travelled to Richfield on March 17 for a seven team meet.
In the girls sprints, Regina Tetreault placed 10th in the 100 meters.
Andraya Newby placed third in the 200, followed by Ashley Anderson in seventh and Madsen in ninth.
Madsen also place first in the 3200 meters and second in the 1600.
Other top runner finishes included Elizabeth Brooks' third place in the 800 and sixth place in the 3200 along with Brittany Horrocks's sixth place finish in the 1600.
In the girls hurdles, Allie Stewart placed sixth in the 100 meter and fourth in the 300 meter.
Potts placed first in the girls high jump, with teammate Newby taking sixth.
Goodrich again lead Carbon in the boys 3200, taking fourth and adding an eighth place finish in the 1600.
Todd Hickens had a personal best in the boys high jump, placing sixth.
