A side impact collision took the lives of two Ogden residents Thursday afternoon as they attempted to merge onto U.S. Highway 6.

According to Utah Highway Patrol Officer James Wright, the incident occurred just after 1 p.m. when a Silver 2000 Nissan Maxima tried to turn left from the Thistle Junction.

The Nissan's driver Katherine P. Marcus, 16 and passenger Taylor Marcus, 12 were pronounced dead at the scene by attending medical personnel.

It was reported that both Katherine and Taylor were wearing their seatbelts.

The collision occurred near Hwy. 6's mile post 187, directly across from the SR 89 junction known as Thistle. As a red 4-door Jeep Wrangler approached, it struck the Maxima broadside when Marcus attempted to merge.

"The Nissan pulled out in front of the Jeep Wrangler," said Officer Wright.

The Jeep's three occupants were not identified and reportedly received only minor injuries.
