County awards contract for new office building to Ascent Construction

Ascent Contruction of Centerville will be the builder for Carbon County's new courthouse in Price.

The firm, whose local work includes the Carbon Senior Center and Department of Natural Resources Regional Office, won with a base bid of $15.8 million.

The county's Municipal Building Authority made it official at last Wednesday's meeting. The MBA is the county commission acting in a different legal capacity.

There are a few more procedural hoops to jump through before ground can be broken at 750 E. 100 North. Ascent will have to sign the MBA's contract and secure its contruction bonds.

Then the building authority will sign the contract and issue the notice to proceed.

The building authority will have final say on any modifications in the project. That suits Commissioner Jae Potter, who told his colleagues, "It's a big project and an asset to the community, but we've got to be careful."
