Helper to play Cyprus for State Championship

By KEVIN SCANNELL

Down to their final outs of the 2013 season, the Helper American Legion baseball team did not go down without a fight.

Helper staged a late game rally scoring four runs in the ninth inning to complete a comeback stunning Stansbury 11-9 on Thursday evening. Stansbury defeated Helper earlier in the week 4-2, sending them to the one-loss bracket.

With the victory over Stansbury, Helper will now play Cyprus today (Aug. 2) at 4 p.m. at Logan High School. If Helper wins, the two teams will play again at 7 p.m. Helper must win both games in order to win the championship.

Cyprus and Helper are no strangers to each other. In three games this season, Helper holds a 2-1 record with Cyprus winning the first game on June 12 (3-2) and Helper winning two games in the Helper Tournament in June (14-5 and 5-3).
