Derek Young, a former Carbon High athlete, threw a complete game for Helper in a 2-1 win over Mt. Crest on Wednesday.
With their backs against the wall, the Helper American Legion baseball team has little room for error in the State Tournament. One more loss could end their season.
Derek Young pitched a complete game and Jaren McCourt and Cole Fossat provided just enough offense to push Helper past Mountain Crest 2-1 on Wednesday.
McCourt hit a solo home run to give Helper the early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Mt. Crest battled back and tied the game in the fifth with a run scoring single.
In the sixth inning, Fossat hit a sacrifice fly to score Dylan Vogrinec giving Helper the lead back at 2-1.
With the win, Helper advanced in the consolation bracket to face the winner of Logan/Layton on Thursday. Helper would need to win their next four games if they want to claim a state
