First Friday events this week in Helper are going to give the town's Arts and Music Festival a jump start.
The grand opening of the Frida Kahlo Traveling Exhibit will be at 7 p.m. in Civic Auditorium. Kahlo, a renowned artist in her own right, was the wife of muralist Diego Rivera.
In keeping with the ethnic theme, there will be a Mariachi band with traditional dancers at 8 p.m.. Mexican food vendors and a beer garden will also be on hand.
At the other end of town, there is going to be a black light zumbathon in the Rio Theatre from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This is a fund-raiser for new playground equipment in Helper Park. Tickets are $10.
Sweet Sorrows will perform authentic Irish music at the Balance Rock restaurant.
While all this is going on there will also be a Blast from the Past 50s block party. Period costumes are encouraged.
