Carbon County to receive
$1.05 million from
Interior in lieu of taxes
Carbon County will receive $1,049,658 as payment in lieu of taxes from the Interior Department for the 2013 fiscal year.
The department administers 436,228 acres of public land in the county.
This land cannot be taxed by state or local governments. However, Congress enacted a law in 1976 permitting the federal goverment make payments in lieu of those taxes to support schools and other government services.
