Utah's nonfarm payroll employment for March 2013 grew by an estimated 4.0 percent, adding 48,700 jobs to the economy as compared to March 2012. This brings Utah's current employment level to 1,277,900.
The March seasonally adjusted unemployment rate measured 4.9 percent, having fallen three tenths from February. Approximately 67,900 individuals were unemployed and actively seeking work. The national unemployment rate dropped modestly to 7.6 percent.
The number of employed individuals has increased by approximately 8,900.
Of the eleven industry groups observed, nine posted year-over employment gains. The largest gains were in Trade, Transportation and Utilities (10,800 jobs), Leisure and Hospitality (9,200 jobs) and Professional and Business Services (7,800 jobs). The Natural Resources and Mining industry lost jobs at a rate of 0.8 percent compared to March of 2012 and the Government sector lost about 300 jobs.
