Carbon High pitcher Dakota Cisneros, a senior, excelled on the mound for the Dinos as he pitched a perfect game in an 11-0 five inning win over South Sevier on Wednesday.
After playing five games into their 2013 season, the Carbon High baseball team already has a moment they will never soon forget.
Senior Dakota Cisneros threw a perfect game against South Sevier in a five inning 11-0 win on Wednesday.
CHS head coach Troy Moynier it was interesting to watch Cisneros take the mound each inning as he proceeded to shut down the South Sevier offense.
"He pitched very well, obviously," said Moynier in an interview on Monday afternoon. "It's totally awesome for him and the team to experience playing in a perfect game."
Moynier said Cisneros got behind the count with a few batters throughout the game, but he was able to calm down and get the outs.
"He did an excellent job of coming back from being behind in the count," he said. "Overall he had good velocity on his pitches and he was getting his offspeed pitches in for strikes which was a key for him in the game."
Cisneros also had a big day at the plate getting three walks and a double.
Derek Young and Kayden Feichko also had key hits for the Dino offense which scored 11 runs to score the mercy rule win.
The Dinos struggled against 4A's Maple Mountain the following day as they fell behind early thanks to a 7 run inning in the bottom of the third. Moynier said three errors and a walk gave Maple Mountain plenty of baserunners to work with and they capitalized on the Dino miscues.
"We've got to cut down on the errors which have hurt us in our losses this season," he said.
Carbon High (2-3) will play on the road against rival Emery High today at 3 p.m.
The team will play their first home game on Wednesday against Union at the Carbon High Baseball Field at 3:30 p.m.
