The baseball season is officially underway and the Carbon Dinos are off to a good start. Following Tuesday's 11-1 victory over the Lehi Pioneers, the Dinos find themselves at 2-0 for the season.
The Dinos realize that the season is early and a lot can happen in the next several weeks, but the team also realizes that they have the talent to be a front runner in the Region 8 standings this year.
Against Lehi, the Dinos came out strong and held on tight to take care of business.
Pitching for the Dinos was senior, Jamal Lewis who according to coach Lane Herrick had a great game.
"Jamal did a great job for us. He really stepped up on defense to give us an advantage over Lehi," explained Herrick.
Lewis held Lehi to only one run in five innings while chalking up four strike outs against the Region 8 squad.
Herrick explained that the win was a complete team effort and that he was most satisfied with his teams hitting performance during the road game.
"The kids came out hitting the ball well. We have had athletes who have not quite reached their potential so far, but in the Lehi game I think a lot of these kids came around and played good for us," Herrick explained.
Herrick continued by explaining that senior, Jeff Jorgensen finished the game 4-4 at bat.
Jorgensen was also successful at stealing four bases during the early season game.
Also stepping up for the Dinos was Franky Iriart who had several big hits for the Carbon team.
"Our entire game is really coming around. The offense really got better against the Pioneers. The back-to-back wins really gives us something to build on," commented Herrick.
Next on the Dino's schedule is North Sanpete who will be in town this Friday afternoon. According to Herrick, this might be the toughest game of the season thus far and possible the most difficult of the year.
"North Sanpete is a good team and I think that they will put up a good fight. I also think that Delta will be another team that we will have to step up to defeat and we will play them next week on their home field," concluded Herrick.
With two quick wins under their belt, the Dinos look forward to a season which is thought by many to be the year of the big blue Dino.
