Teacher's pet? No way

Castle Heights fourth grade teacher Kiera Luke gets a toothless nip on the ear
Castle Heights fourth grade teacher Kiera Luke gets a toothless nip on the ear from a baby black bear who came to class for a visit. The little bear and his brother were found abandoned in their den near Monticello by Division of Wildlife Resources biologist Brad Crompton. Since Crompton's daughter, Sofia, is in Mrs. Luke's class, and since the class is working on a unit about animals, things worked out for a classroom lesson. Crompton said it is unusual for a mother bear to abandon her cubs, but it does happen sometimes. They'll be nursed until they are ready to be released in the fall near they place there were found. More school pictures are on page 5A.
