Day at the legislature

Carbon Senior Citizens in attendance at the annual "Senior Day at the Legislature" on Feb. 13 were pleasantly surprised when the welcoming address for the day was given by a Price native, Dwight Rasmussen. Rasmussen, a Carbon High graduate, who is employed by the Salt Lake County Aging Services. He also introduced the key note speaker for the day, Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams.

Following Mayor McAdams' speech, seniors, several hundred from throughout the state, left the auditorium of the state office building to walk over to the state capitol building for a guided tour to the galleries of both the State Senate and State House of Representatives chambers. This provided the seniors an opportunity to see the legislative bodies in action.

At noon the seniors reassembled back in the auditorium of the office building and each was presented with a box lunch. At this time the legislative bodies are on their noon break giving legislators an opportunity to visit with their respective constituents.

State Senator David Hinkins came to the auditorium and graciously visited with each member of the Carbon delegation.
