The Utah Permanent Community Impact Board (CIB) approved $4,558,596 in grants and low interest loans for projects that will benefit Southeastern Utah communities in Grand, Emery and San Juan counties during a regularly scheduled funding meeting held in St. George February 7.
The Castle Valley Special Service District received $2,872,000 for projects on their 2013 capital improvement project list. The funds will be used for curbs, gutters and streets in Elmo Town, Cleveland, Huntington, Castle Dale, Orangeville, Ferron and Emery.
Funds will also be used for sewer improvements in Clawson. The $2.8 million was approved as a loan to be paid in 30 years at 1.5 percent interest.
Other CIB-funded improvements for Southeastern Utah communities approved include:
$1,040,000 loan for 30 years at 1.5 percent interest to construct a community center for Monticello City
$225,000 grant for the purchase of a new fire truck for the Thompson Springs Special Service Fire District. Grand County is providing a $25,000 grant to equip the vehicle
$450,000 loan for 30 years at 1.5 percent interest for sewer system improvements in Blanding City
$81,596 grant was awarded to the San Juan County Municipal Building Authority for the expansion of the fire station in Eastland
$115,000 grant was awarded to the San Juan County Municipal Building Authority for the construction of a maintenance shop in Blanding City.
The Community Impact Board awards grants and low-interest loans to cities, towns and counties impacted by mining and the extraction of oil and gas on federal land. Projects funded by the CIB benefit rural Utah by creating safer, more livable communities. The program is managed by the Housing and Community Development Division under the Utah Department of Workforce Services.
