Esther E. Tombaugh Wheeler
PRICE - Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Esther E. Wheeler, age 92, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2013. She now rests in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
Esther was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and always had time for her family and friends. She was deeply religious, and made sure her children were raised with the same values. She had a wonderful, sweet, humble, positive outlook on everything in life, no matter how difficult the challenge.
Esther was born in Gridley, Kan., on Nov. 8, 1920 to Martin and Laura Morehead Tombaugh. Graduated from Tucson Senior High School in 1939. Joined the Lady US Marine's Corp at Phoenix, Ariz., active duty started Nov. 26, 1943 and was discharged Dec. 1, 1945, where she was trained in Norman, Okla., as an Aviation Machinist Mate (Navel Air Tech - Airplane Mechanic). Was then sent back to Cherry Point Marine Base, N.C., where she worked on airplanes in the hanger until after the war.
Married Marion W. Wheeler Jr. on Jan 17, 1946, in Tucson, Ariz. Moved to Price in 1946, where they spent most of their married life and raised five children. Randy (Lila) Wheeler, Roy (Debbie) Wheeler, Nancy Ferderber, Nina Peay, and Sandra (Chuck) Clarkson. They adored their 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Esther was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church. A member of Naomi Chapter 13 Order of the Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron of the local chapter, also held offices in the Grand Chapter including Past Grand Matron of Utah. Her hobbies included crocheting tablecloths for all her children, making quilts - made quilts for all her children, grandchildren, and every wedding, she was an avid seamstress. Esther and Marion spent 10 years researching the family history and making books of remembrance for each one of her children.
Survived by five children, 14 grandchildren 22 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Isobell Kelly, and Phyllis Wheeler. Preceded in death by parents, husband Marion W. Wheeler Jr., sisters, Leona Muir, and Betty Gray; brothers-in-law, Claude Wheeler Sr., Gilbert Kelly, Jack Muir, and Jim Gray; and son-in-law, Greg Ferderber.
The family would like to express their appreciation to everyone at the Pinnacle Care Center in Price for the wonderful care and love shown to our sweet mother.
Funeral service, Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, 11 a.m., Price United Methodist Church, 10 N. 200 E., Price. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. and at the church Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
