Dino boys splash to victory over Emery, Grand; Girls finish 2nd, but illness, injury plague team

Carbon Dino boys swimmers took first place in the three-way meet against Grand and Emery Jan. 8 in Price.

The girls team, struggling with illness and missing team mates, took second in a contest that was not decided until the last event.

The final scores for the boys were Carbon 94, Emery 76 and Grand 36. The girls' scores were Carbon 83, Emery 86 and Grand 37.

In the 200 medley relay, Carbon girls finished 2nd. The Carbon boys were 1st. In the 200 free, Lonnie Meneiche finished 1st with a time of 2:10.68. Her closest competitor was a 2:29.90. Team mate Ali Heath (2:41.26) was 3rd and Erica Mantz (2:50.48) 4th.

In the boys 200 free, Brent Keller won 1st with a time of 2:04.64. Team mate Austin Baker took 4th (2:33.81).

In the girls 200 IM Lauren Engar took 2nd (2:50.41). Boys 200 IM Joseph Keller

captured 1st with a time of 2:40.54. Team mate Thory VanDyke finished with a close 2nd with a time if 02:41.64.

In the girls 50 free Brittney Willson (29.67)took 2nd.

For the boys 50 free it was Dakota Powell in 1st (24.45) and Lance Riche in 2nd (24.51).

The girls 100 fly was a close intense race. Lonnie Meineche took 1st with a time of 1:07.36 with the emery swimmer right on her tail with a 1:17.73. Lauren Engar was in 3rd (1:23.84) and Ali Heath in 4th (1:24.10).

Boys 100 fly had Brent Keller in 1st (1:02.26), and

Zach Prettyman in 3rd (1:12.61).

In the girls 100 free Erica Mantz placed 2nd (1:13.78).

The boys 100 free was another close race. Joel Garff was in 2nd with a time of 55.81, just .45 of a second out of 1st.

Carbon swam well in the girls 500 free, placing Ali Heath in first, 7:19.74, Tati Larsen in 3rd, 7:26.67, and Angie Beaudonnet in 4th.

In the boys 500 Joseph Keller finished in 2nd, 6:46.48.

Carbon's girls 200 free relay finished 1st with a time of 1:56.55.

Boys 200 free relay was also in first place, 1:47.95. The girls 100 back has always been a struggle for Carbon. Irene Paolucci was in 3rd and Susannah Ohlwiler in 4th.

In the boys 100 back Lance Riche just out touches his competitor to take 1st, 1:07.16.

The 100 breaststroke had Heidi Prettyman in 6th place.

Thory VanDyke had a great swim in his 100 breast finishing in 1st with his best time of 1:13.30.

In the last event, Carbon girls 400 free relay couldn't pull out the win and placed 2nd. That took the meet victory away from them. However, two of the regular swimmers were not swimming because of sickness and injury.

Boys 400 free relay made is a clean sweep, Carbon winning all relays, 3:49.00.
