The Emery High Lady Spartans took round one in the annual rivalry series with Carbon High as they took a 40-24 win at home on Tuesday night.
After playing a close game through the first half and going into halftime tied at 16-16, Emery turned up the pressure on both sides of the ball. Emery outscored Carbon 14-3 in the third quarter keeping the Lady Dinos off balance on offense by not letting them get good shots.
Free throw shooting played a difference in the final outcome as Emery shot 15-of-17 (88 percent) compared to Carbon High who finished 10-of-19 (53 percent).
Jeridi Price and Shelby Allred each scored 13 points for Emery to lead the offensive attack.
Shailee Croasmun led Carbon with eight points on the night.
