Rob Bona of Springville took a 7 lb. 4 oz., 25.5 inch tiger trout with a cheese bait. Rob's son-in-law, Riley Thorpe, caught a 16 lb. 2 oz., 30.5 inch long brown trout with a spinner. Both men were shore fishing at the Mountain View unit of Scofield State Park on Oct. 14.
Bona, who has a cabin in Scofield West, was with Thorpe and his two twin 2-year-old boys, Ryker and Hunter. "I have been fishing this lake for over 40 years and never caught anything like this, not even close," Bona said.
He caught the tiger while bait fishing on bottom using cheese-like substance). Riley caught the big brown a little later while spin casting deep with a heavy spinner.
"He thought he was hung up on the bottom but all the sudden it came to life. We almost lost it back into the lake because we didn't have a net but I sacrificed a wet boot and crotch took it for a ride to make sure it didn't get away," said Rob.
