Focus on Elections

Christine Watkins: As a product of our public education system, having earned a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree, and as a former educator I know very well how much a good education can change a person's life. I will continue to fight for more education dollars to keep education in our small rural schools appropriately funded. My record shows that I have supported small businesses that are so vital to our rural economy. My record also shows that I support and advocate for coal mining, and the oil and gas industries. All of these energy producers provide good employment opportunities for our community members. I grew up on a large farm and as a member of the Natural Resources Committee I have actively supported all efforts to sustain agriculture here in Utah. Tourism is so very important for all of us. I will continue my fight for our State Parks, and funding for our State Tourism Department that does such a great job of show- casing our state. I am a firm believer in Multiple Use of our public lands. Hunting and fishing, camping and hiking, ATV designated Trails; these all are important to our quality of life. I am working to ensure that money set aside for our retired and injured miners is appropriately utilized. I was successful in passing a bill that requires the Miner's Hospital to be accountable for the funds that are being spent. No matter your social or economic status, or issues you believe important, I treat all of my constituents who come to me for assistance with dignity and respect. I work hard to keep families intact and have helped find money to teach mothers and fathers, in their homes, how to be better parents. I have earned the respect and admiration of the legislators with whom I work. The legislation that I have passed and the committees on which I work demonstrate my ability to get things done. I have True Grit and I ask for your vote to keep me, your rural legislator, working for you.
