PRICE - Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend Virgil J. Sandoval, age 78, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012.

Virgil was the fourth of eight children born to Charlie and Anita Santistevan Sandoval in Costilla, N.M. on Nov. 27, 1933.

In 1945, the family moved to Dragerton where he completed the tenth grade at the Dragerton School before entering the U.S. Marine Corp in 1951. He received an honorable discharge in August 1952. Virgil began his coal mining career in Sunnyside with U.S. Fuel Company and later retired from Kaiser Coal Company after 40 years of service. Virgil was a hard worker who greatly enjoyed being a coal miner. He loved coal mining and made many lifelong friends while working in the mine. Virgil was a member of the UMWA and Notre Dame Catholic Church.

Virgil married the loved of his life, Dolores Aguayo on June 28, 1952 in Aztec, N.M. They made their home in Sunnyside where they raised four wonderful children before moving to Price. Virgil was always an exceptional provider and a wonderful father. His greatest love was his family and he especially enjoyed coaching his boys baseball teams for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, camping, hunting and fishing. Virgil lived life to the fullest. He loved to dance, gamble and spend time with friends and family. Virgil's door was always open and everyone was welcome for dinner, poker or a visit.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dolores; their children, Charlie (Esther) Sandoval, Price, David (Anna) Sandoval, Murray, Ernest (Sandra) Sandoval, Grafton, WI, and Jessieann (Brad) Huff, also of Price; grandchildren, Bryan "Herman" Sandoval, Kimberly Wood, Jennifer (Trevor) Vigor, Casey (Michelle) Huff, Bobbi (Chris) Taylor, Shelley Sandoval, Austin Sandoval, Derek Sandoval, Alisebeth Sandoval. Virgil greatly enjoyed his great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brady, CJ, Catherine, Chaya, Chantelle and Brianna; his siblings, Lucy Walker, Elko, Nev., Arthur (Ann) Sandoval, Price, Joe F. Sandoval, South Fork, Colo., Esther Franco, Nampa, Idaho, Grace Duenas, Covina, Calif., Marcy (Dick) Hickman, Citrus Heights, Calif; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends who all adored him.

He was preceded in death by parents, brothers, Ray and Alfonso Sandoval; grandchildren, Anna and Larry Chavez; and great-grandchildren Chase Wood and Braxton Sandoval.

Virgil had the unique gift of making family and friends feel that each and every person had a special place in his heart. We are all better people for knowing him. Virgil will be dearly missed, eternally loved and never forgotten.

Funeral Mass, Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church (210 N. Carbon Ave., Price). Vigil service, Wednesday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 E. Main Street-Price). Family will be at Mitchell's Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
