Lavern L. Lemburg "LLL", L3 or Cannonball
PRICE/AURORA, Colo - Lavern Leon Lemburg, age 90, passed away Sept. 15, 2012 at the Heirloom Inn. He was born Feb. 25, 1922 to Walter E. and Ella A. Kaiser Lemburg on the family farm in rural Farwell, Neb. He graduated with the 1940 class from Boelus High School.
At first he held various occupations as a day laborer and farm help. Then he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942, during World War II. He was proudly part of the Fighting Fourth Marine Division and saw action in the Pacific theater. "Once a Marine, always a Marine."
He married Joyce E. Dewhirst on June 15, 1947 in Grand Island, Neb.
They moved to Denver, Colo., and then east to Aurora. They had their only daughter, Georgina, in 1950. For the past several years Lavern and Joyce resided at Heirloom Inn in Price.
Lavern worked for his cousin's dry cleaners, had a popcorn machine run, helped build a big part of Aurora as part of Burn's Construction, worked at a friend's Texaco station, was a working partner with his friend at Hanger Neon and Sign Co., placed many a signs in the Aurora community and finally retired from the State of Colorado, Department of Motor Vehicles after being a driver's license examiner and hearing officer.
Always known as "Mr. Fix It", Lavern would tackle any problem and try to find a fix. He was an avid hunter who generally enjoyed the outdoors.
Lavern is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Lemburg; daughter, Georgina (Matt) Nowak; three grandchildren, Jeff, Greta, and Valerie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a baby sister.
Funeral services will be held, Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, 2 p.m. at the Aurora Chase Chapel in Aurora, Colo. A viewing was held Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price.
