Sun Advocate sports reporter

In another down to the wire game, the Carbon High Dinos fell to the Altamont Longhorns 14-6 on Homecoming night.

Altamont, a class 1A team, used a rushing attack that included two touchdowns from senior Kyle Foy which focused on gaining positive amounts of yards on each play. As the game went along, the Longhorns continued to move the ball down the field while controlling the clock and keeping the Dino offense off the field.

Foy's 3-yard run and successful two-point conversion midway through the fourth quarter gave the Longhorns their first lead of the night 14-6.

On their final possession of the game, Altamont's Cassidy Smith intercepted a pass over the middle of the field by Carbon High's Dakota Cisneros to help seal the victory for the Longhorns.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Dinos scored first taking a 6-0 lead when wide receiver Zac Hathaway caught a 30-yard pass from Cisneros that was tipped by an Altamont defender at the 1-yard line which fell into Hathaway's hands while standing in the end zone.

The Dinos had two takeaways in the first quarter, including a fumble recovery by Lane Neese on the second play of the game and an interception by Hathaway later in the quarter. The Dinos were unable to convert on either turnover as they failed to convert on a fourth down from inside the Altamont 5-yard line.

After another interception by Hathaway with two minutes left in the first half, the Dinos again failed to convert the turnover into points as they drove down inside the Altamont 10-yard line only to see the drive end when a Cisneros pass was intercepted by the Altamont defense in the end zone.

Foy scored his first of two touchdowns for the Longhorns late in the third quarter on a 2-yard run. The ensuing extra point was no good and the game was tied at 6-6.

The Dinos turned the ball over on downs with 5:12 left in the game, giving the Longhorns the ball in Dino territory. The Longhorns (1-4, Class 1A) converted on a fourth-and-long taking more time off the clock and forcing the Dinos to use their three timeouts to stop the clock.

Carbon High got the ball back with 2:23 left to go and needed fourth down catch by wide receiver Garrett Blanc to keep the drive alive. Two plays later, Altamont picked off a Cisneros pass ending the Dinos chance for a comeback.

The Dinos also dealt with a rash of injuries during the game which saw players including Kyle Barrett, Jordan Blanc and Neese leave the game with various injuries. Blanc, who left the game with an apparent knee injury in the third quarter, later returned for the Dinos.

After going 1-4 through their non-region schedule, Carbon High will begin Region 12 play on the road against Spanish Fork next Friday night at 7 p.m.
