Archery hunting season opens
Hunting above Carbon and Emery County on Manti Unit
According to Lieutenant Carl Gramlich, most hunters are seeing bucks. No complaints about having to stay in a single unit. Not many deer were taken, but most hunters want to make use of the entire hunting season and are very discriminating about how big a buck they are going to harvest. They are holding out for the biggest buck on the mountain and don't want to end the almost four week hunting season early.
Hunting above Moab in the LaSal Mountains
Conservation Officer Tj Robertson says that he didn't hear any complaints about the number of bucks hunters were seeing. He reported that hunters reported seeing a lot of small bucks. A few bucks have already been taken.
Hunting above Monticello and Blanding in Blue Mountains
Conservation Officer Dennis Shirley said that almost everybody saw deer and almost everyone was able to take a shot. A lot of younger bucks were taken. He received a lot of compliments from out-of-state hunters about the number of deer they saw, but also received some complaints from residents about the number of deer they saw. The deer population is good, according to Shumway.
