The Carbon High Boys Golf team had their first region match finishing 20 shots better at this match than they did last year.

Last year the CHS team took fourth place in their first region match and on their way to a sixth place finish after the entire season. This year after the first match the CHS team is in third place as a team and only seven shots back of first. The team played at Gladstan Golf Course the home course for Payson. Payson shot a team total of 327, Spanish Fork 331, Carbon 334, North Sanpete 348, Juab 356 and Delta 367 as a team.

Junior Robbi Etzel shot a two over par 74 for a first place finish and is leading the region medalist by two shots.

Other numbers for Dinos on the roster included Derek Weston shooting 83, Nick Rukavina with an 85, Kody Henrie and Freston Smith both shooting 92 and Dillen Ward finishing with 94.

On a bad note it looks like we will be losing one of our top players Derek Weston as he will be moving shortly, said CHS head coach Tom King.

The Dinos' next match is Wednesday Aug. 15 at Roosevelt.

"Our goal is to pick up those seven shots on Payson and add more distance between the teams that are in fourth, fifth and sixth. We want to finish in the top three as a team in region this year and I want us to win the region. However if they can stay in the top three we will go to state as a team," said King.
