After a hiatus of several years, the International Days Carbon Tennis Tournament was revived and held on Thursday, July 26 and Friday, July 27.
There were two divisions, adult (senior) and junior (18 and younger). All of the matches this year were singles matches.
The participants in the junior division were Hailey Bullard, Zach Clifford, John Musselman, Alex Richens, Andrew Richens, Cameron Shiner, Wyatt Whitmer and Zane Whitmer. Zach Clifford took a close championship match, winning in two sets, 6-4, 6-4 over Alex Richens. Zane Whitmer avenged an earlier round loss to Andrew Richens in the 3rd place consolation match, 6-1, 7-5.
In the adult division there were only four participants. They were Jim Brooks, Nick Mahleres, Robert Richens, and Pete Riggs. Nick Mahleres won 6-3, 6-1 over Pete Riggs for 1st place and Robert Richens defeated Jim Brooks 6-1, 6-2 for third place.
All of the participants enjoyed the tournament and felt that it was an overall success. We would invite all tennis players, young and old to participate in next year's tourney, when we plan on expanding the tournament by adding separate boys', girls', and women's division as well as doubles to the mix.
If anyone is interested in playing tennis with other players from the community of all skill levels and abilities, please contact one of the high school tennis coaches, Pete Riggs (boys) 435-630-1991 or Tom Alleman (girls) 435-650-9661.
