East Carbon and Sunnyside emergency personnel sprang into action last night as a fire burned one East Carbon home to the ground and threatened two others nearby.
According to East Carbon Police Officer Shawn Sackett, dispatch paged out a distress call just after 9:30 p.m.
"I came toward the fire from Columbia," explained Sackett. "And by the time I reached the home it was fully engulfed in flames."
Sackett secured the scene at 121 8th West, the home of Chad Starzel, 35.
Starzel was transported via ambulance to Castleview Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
According to Sackett, the cause of the blaze is still undetermined as the Utah State Fire Marshall didn't start his investigation until late today.
"Our fire departments did a great job last night," said Sackett. "They were able to put down the fire and protect nearby homes. The deluge guns they have make a major difference with large fires."
Despite the proximity of two residences to the fire only cosmetic damage was reported.
