Public Works competition keeps jobs skills in shape

Trackhoe operators for example

By John Serfustini Sun Advocate

Price City Public Works employees tested their skills in competition at the city ballpark Thursday.

Events were based on the equipment and skills they have to use on the job - with a little more difficulty added to each test to make things interesting.

Trackhoe operators, for example, had to use some really fine motor skills to position the bucket for the challenge. They were given three minutes to see how many blocks of wood they could fish out a water-filled dumpster.

The trick was they could not use the bucket itself, but had to thread a pipe mounted on the bucket through a u-bolt on the blocks and carefully lift, rotate the trackhoe arm and deposit the block on the ground beside the dumpster.
