The Dinos traveled to Grand High School on May 1 and lost 1-4, though they played well. Tanner Gagnon played at #1 and lost 1-6, 1-6. Nick Haycock played at # 2 and won 6-2, 5-7, 6-2. Danny Larson played at # 3 and lost 1-6, 3-6. #1 doubles Nathan Fausett and Yuan Tien lost narrowly, 4-6, 4-6 and then #2 doubles Cameron Shiner and Nick Hansen lost 1-6, 2-6.
The Dinos followed that by hosting Richfield High on May 2 and won overall 3-2. Danny Larson played as a #1 and he started out strong and led for a while, but ended up losing 3-6, 4-6. Nick Haycock won his second straight match at #2 by a score of 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 and Tanner Gagnon also won at #3 in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. At #1 doubles Nathan and Yuan again played well and lost, 3-6, 3-6 and Cameron Shiner and Nick Hansen won their #2 doubles match, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
The Dinos completed their season by hosting region powerhouse leader Spanish Fork on May 3 and we lost 0-5, The team played well at few spots, including Tanner Gagnon who won 3 points against a tough # 2 competitor and later played again on the JV and won.
"It was a pretty good week for us. We really competed well in both matches that we lost, and were very happy to win against a good Richfield team," said CHS boys tennis coach Pete Riggs.
Riggs said both the Varsity and JV teams have seen a lot of improvement since the beginning of the season with the freshmen being a big boost to the program. They started out losing, but have ended up winning many of their recent JV matches.
