Bill and Toni Thayn.
Bill and Toni Thayn have been making good stuff with their Dutch Oven techniques for years. Many local people know how delicious it is.
Now the world knows too.
The couple took second at the World Dutch Oven Competition at the South Towne Center in Sandy during the St. Patrick's Day weekend. The cookoff is sanctioned by the Internatioal Dutch Oven Socienty.
The IDOS is a non-profit organization with the goals to preserve and promote the skills and art of Dutch Oven cooking. From it's beginnings in the Rocky Mountains, IDOS has grown to its current status as the largest and most productive group of black pot enthusiasts in the world.
The organizations mission is to pursue, promote and protect the art of Dutch oven cooking; to develop more enthusiastic relations between the general public and other societies; to encourage participation in events, promote Dutch Oven Gatherings; provide the best support to all chapters and members; in general ensure the preservation of cooking in Dutch ovens. Their motto is Good Food, Good Friends, and Good Fun.
The Thayns are well known in the circles of the organization for their excellent meat dishes and desserts. One of the things they make that no one can pass up is the rolls.
"We are very proud of Bill and Toni," commented Debbie Hair, the president of the IDOS right after the competition. "They are great contributers to IDOS and their dishes are always top notch."
