Recently Governor Herbert vetoed HB 363. While it is being called into question whether it was political timing or not, I am inspired by his choice. I don't think this is a stamp of approval for Utah children to have sex. I think this is a great opportunity for the education system and parents to work as a collaborative system and inform children about how to protect their bodies.
Just because the education system has the ability to inform students about sexual choices and how it can affect them physically, doesn't mean that it will override the educational piece that will come from parents about how it can affect them emotionally or spiritually.
Bottom line is that I agree with teaching our children about sex education and having confidence in our parenting skills that they will respect their bodies and make choices that respect their own values.
