While the end of play for this year did not result in a trip to the state tournament, the Pinnacle girls basketball team continued to take steps in the right direction this season.

In their second season at the 1A level, the PHS girls improved in many different areas. No where was that more evident in the win column. In the 2010-11 season, the Lady Panthers won just one game. This season they finished 10-11 overall and 2-8 in Region 19 play.

Head coach Michael Shaffer said the team showed a lot of heart coming into the start of the season.

"We had a great start to the season winning a lot of games but the second half was difficult dealing with injuries and a tough region schedule," Shaffer said. "But I'm very proud with how the girls fought through adversity all season long."

There will be adjustments to make as Shaffer will not be returning to coach the Lady Panthers next season.

"I really enjoyed coaching the girls this year and I think things are moving in the right direction for the team," he said.

The departing seniors on the team include Naomi Dalton, Cali Moon, Rylie Birch, Jordan Hamner, Shalisha Moosman and Shaelynn Hughes.
