Rachel Scoggins drives to the basket against Spanish Fork earlier this season.
Junior Jordan Blanc goes up for a layup in the game against Juab on Friday.
The Carbon High boys and girls teams both suffered tough losses last week to Juab with the girls losing in overtime and the boys falling to defeat in the final minute of the game.
In the girls loss to Juab, Carbon had a 10 point lead head into the final quarter of the game. During the fourth quarter, Juab made a big comeback run that helped propel the team into overtime. In the extra period, the visitors made enough plays and hit foul shots down the stretch to help get the big road win, handing Carbon their first Region 12 loss of the season and ending Carbon's eight game winning streak.
However the Lady Dinos got back to business on Tuesday night against region opponent North Sanpete with a 72-47 win.
In the first half, North Sanpete and Carbon battled back and forth to a 24-24 tie heading into halftime. After halftime the Lady Dinos picked things up doubling their 24 points in the first half with 24 points in the third quarter to take a 13 point lead into the fourth quarter.
It was a departure from their previous games where the team has experienced problems in getting their offense going on a consistent basis in the second half.
The Carbon High girls (15-4, 8-1 Region 12) continued to pull away in the fourth quarter outscoring North Sanpete 26-12 en route to the 72-47 win.
Senior Amanda Freestone led the Lady Dinos with 24 points. Seniors Rachel Scoggins and Miranda Averett added 17 and 13 points respectively.
After a tough 62-59 loss to Juab on Friday night, the Carbon High boys team bounced back with a 66-54 win over North Sanpete.
Junior Jordan Blanc scored a team-high 26 points to help lead Carbon to the important region victory. Senior Tanner Gagnon added 14 and junior Dakota Cisneros had 10 on the night.
The Carbon High boys (11-8, 4-5 Region 12) now sit alone in fourth place, moving one game ahead of North Sanpete in the Region 12 standings.
Both the Carbon High boys and girls teams will be playing their final home games of the season against Delta before state tournament play begins. The girls will play Delta tonight and the boys will play on Friday night. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the CHS gymnasium.
