Steady defense, consistent offense lead Lady Dinos to fifth straight win

Senior Rachel Scoggins applies pressure on defense during an earlier game this season. Scoggins finished with 14 points against North Sanpete.

The Carbon High Lady Dinos basketball team is sticking to the formula of a tough pressure defense and a consistent, balanced offense attack that has brought them success through the first half of the season.

The Lady Dinos continued their success this past week as they defeated North Sanpete 64-40 in a Region 12 game on Thursday night.

After a close first half with Carbon leading 25-20, the Lady Dinos began to pull away as they outscored their opponents 39-20 in the second half, including a 23-9 mark in the fourth quarter.

Senior Rachel Scoggins led Carbon with 14 points, including four three-pointers. Fellow seniors Miranda Averett and Amanda Freestone each finished with 12 points.

Carbon (11-3, 4-0 Region 12) will travel to take on Delta, the team they are currently tied for first place in Region 12, tonight at 7 p.m.
