SPRING GLEN - Winfield S. Wooden, age 90, passed away peacefully Dec. 21, 2011 in Helper while surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Jan. 4, 1921 in Eufaula, Okla., to Joe and Jessie Benge Wooden.

Married Mary Lou Brewer, Nov. 25, 1941 in Wheeler, Texas. She passed away Feb. 19, 2004.

"WIN" was a longtime resident of Carbon County where he worked for Eph Henrie Construction for many years. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and numerous other medals. He was an avid fisherman. Gramps always had a big beautiful garden which he shared the bounty with friends and relatives. Both Gram and Gramps loved to travel and after Gramps retired they became full time snow-birds, meeting many friends from all over the country and Canada. He loved his family very much and he will be spending Christmas with Grams this year and they both will be very happy.

Survived by two daughters and one son, JoAnn (Vink) Tolich, Louise (Charles) Hamilton, both of Helper; Scott (Ginny) Wooden, Las Vegas, Nev; sisters, Juanita Dean, Clinton, Iowa; Priscilla Lombard, Pueblo, Colo; brother, Melvin Wooden, Davenport, Okla; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren who will miss him greatly .

Preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Leo and Joe Wooden; sisters Daisy Montgomery and Goldie Webster; and granddaughter Channa Lynn Wooden.

Funeral service, Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment, Mt. View Cemetery, Helper.
