Sitting at 5-0 on the season before heading into a final league match with Mont Harmon Junior High, the Helper Junior High wrestling team had high hopes of going undefeated.

Those hopes were dashed as Mont Harmon came away with the win putting the one blemish on an otherwise perfect season for Helper Junior High. Despite the loss, the Rams still won the regular season league championship, their second in two years.

With the loss behind them, Helper was looking to redeem themselves and finish the season off with the league tournament championship as well.

Three other teams including Mont Harmon, Canyon View and San Rafael all had different ideas and each wanted to make an impact at the tournament. They succeeded as Canyon View won the tournament, followed in second by Mont Harmon, San Rafael in third and Helper Junior High placing in fourth.

Helper Junior High wrestling coach Phil Howa said the Rams have competed in close matches all season long, but they were not able to make a comeback as they did many times before.

The Rams were at a disadvantage with three forfeits, including one due to a wrestler not making weight at the tournament, Howa said.

Despite that, the team still put forth a good effort at the tournament which saw each team bring out their best effort in trying to walk out the winner.

"They gave everything they had all season long," Howa said of his team's effort over the season. "We had the bullseye on our back going into the tournament. It's a little disappointing not to finish as the tournament champs, but that's how it goes sometimes."

Helper Junior High and Mont Harmon saw a number of wrestlers finish at the top of their weight classes in the tournament.

At 75 lbs, Mont Harmon's Trey Crider took first and Dallin Grant took second. At 87 lbs, Mont Harmon's Alen Manzo took first. At 93 lbs, Helper's Ryan Hansen took first. At 99 lbs, Mont Harmon's Chandler Boyd took second. At 111 lbs, Mont Harmon's Taylor Griffeth took second.

At 124 lbs, Mont Harmon's Justice Pendray took first and James Clark finished in second. At 132 lbs, Mont Harmon's Taylon Abeyta took first while Helper's Kyler Wood finished in second. At 140 lbs, Helper's Johnny O'Hearon took first and Mont Harmon's Logan Olsen took second.

At 148 lbs, Helper's Ryan Atwood took second. At 155 lbs, Helper's Caleb Urruita took first. At 165 lbs, Helper's Rylon Brinkerhoff took first.
