The statue honoring the doughboys who fought in World War I - "The War to End All Wars" - stands beside the half-staffed flags of Utah and the United States Wednesday. The flags were lowered by order of Gov. Gary Herbert to commemorate Pearl Harbor Day, which triggered the U. S. into another global conflict. "Today, with the entire State of Utah, I honor those fallen and wounded in the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor 70 years ago. We also honor the ongoing service and sacrifice of our Veterans and our active duty military personnel. We are ever grateful and offer our deepest appreciation for their willingness to put themselves in harm's way to protect our freedoms, our families and our homeland," said the Governor.
