Pinnacle High Girls Basketball team off to hot start in 2011-12

The Pinnacle High School Lady Panthers started the season with a flourish, playing four games in four days.

It started with the JT Steel Tournament in Escalante with the Lady Panthers winning two games and losing to the host team in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Naomi Dalton and Monique Hullings were voted to the All Tournament team by the coaches.

Also, Jordan Hamner won the 3-point shooting contest.

On Monday, the Lady Panthers traveled to Dugway as the Lady Panthers won both the JV and Varsity games after fourth quarter rallies.

A 3-1 record at that point reflected a lot of hard work and teamwork by the Pinnacle Girls Basketball program.

That momentum continued into a game on Tuesday night as the Pinnacle girls faced off with Liahona at the friendly confines of the PHS gym.

The Lady Panthers ran out to a 16-4 first quarter lead against the visitors. Heading into halftime, Pinnacle's lead still stood intact as they were up 26-17.

In the third quarter, the Lady Panthers kept Liahona from getting back into the game, holding them to just two points in the third quarter.

The Lady Panthers scored 11 points in the third quarter to go up 37-19.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Panthers were able to hold their large lead, keeping Liahona from making a comeback.

The Lady Panthers outscored Liahona 10-9 in the final period to post a 47-28 victory.

The Lady Panthers were lead in scoring by Hullings with 17 points.

Ashia Andrews added 12 points.

Other scorers included Jordan Hamner with 6 points, Rylie Birch had 5, Dalton had 3 and Cali Moon and Shaylynn Hughes each finished with 2 points each.

The class 1A Lady Panthers, now at 4-1, will be racking up the miles on the road as they start a string of five consecutive games on the road with a Friday night game against Grand at 7 p.m.
