Sierra Williams didn't play soccer at Carbon High until this year, her senior year, but she's leaving with a number of accolades from her team and region.

Soccer coaches across Region 12 including Delta, North Sanpete, Payson and Spanish Fork put Williams's name on the list for players receiving All-Region 12 recognition last week.

Williams was the only goalkeeper named to the team and was the only member of the Carbon High squad to make the list.

Head coach Keith Palmer said Williams was also named as the team's Most Valuable Player for the season.

"Sierra is a natural athlete and a natural leader out there," Palmer said.

Palmer said her experience on the softball team as a catcher and the similarities of the positions played a role in how she took to the position so quickly.

"After the first game, we knew she was going to be a great goalkeeper," he said. "It's (goalkeeper) one of the hardest positions to play in soccer, but Sierra just took off and kept getting better and better."

While the team did not finish the season they way they would have liked, Palmer said he was proud of the team's effort and hustle in each game, including Williams.

"I just hope that she understands that her hard work did not go unnoticed," he said.
